Crockpot Oats

We eat a lot of hot cereal once the weather changes. I love the idea of having warm cereal waiting for us in the morning, so have tried many, many different Crockpot recipes over the years. We have always been disappointed.

Last night I set up the crockpot using this recipe and crossed my fingers.

The picture doesn't even begin to tell the story. Once again, we were disappointed. It was mushy slop that none of us would even try it.

It is in the refrigerator right now, waiting for me to think if something to do with it. I am thinking muffins.

So... what did I do wrong? Is that what they are supposed to be like, and I am just expecting too much? Is there a better recipe out there, or am I destined to eat smiley, mushy oats?

I think your picture looks about the same as ours. I just thought of something though. I have a habit of tossing in some sunflower seeds or other chopped nuts to give it a little more holding power. I wonder if the texture that I'm attributing to the oats is actually the nuts. Maybe that's your solution, adding a handful of chopped nuts?

Thanks Katie! I am going to try the nuts and see if that helps.
